I had Mr. Vivyan in the 10th grade and have good memories of him as my Social Studies teacher. I always appreciated how approachable he seemed. I trusted that I could ask him just about anything (in front of a class of students) and that, no matter how off the wall the questions I posed seem to me now, he would respond respectfully, and usually find a way to make me feel good about myself for having asked it. He was a great teacher, and I will miss him.

Our prayers go out the Vivyan family...our old Second St. neighbors. Mark was a great guy and I have fun memories of working for him way back when I was a sophomore in high school when he was running the summer jobs program for the town. A great man who will surely be missed. God bless all of you.

I was so sad to learn that Mr. Vivyan passed away. He was the Varsity basketball coach when I was an IHS cheerleader. He was so patient with us and always supported whatever we wanted to do. Although he wasn't my classroom teacher, I still think of him as someone who helped shape who I have become. I can still hear his voice saying, "Let's go...Bell's gonna ring," and that puts a smile on my face. My sincere sympathy to all of Mr. Vivyan's family and friends. The world has lost a good man.

I am deeply sorry and saddened by your loss. Mr. Vivyan was an incredible person. He was always so kind and willing to help. He had a great sense of humor and always made class fun. Even the silly questions were not silly to him. I can still see his smiling face and hear his laugh. I am a better person for having had him as a teacher. He left an imprint on my heart, and feel that it is safe to say, the hearts of many other IHS students. Rest in Peace Mr. Vivyan! We will miss you!!

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
Do not stand at my grave and mourn.
I am the dew-flecked grass at dawn.
Where tranquil oceans meet the land
I am the footprints in the sand
To guide you through the weary day.
I am still here; I'll always stay.
When you wake up to morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.
~ Mary Elizabeth Frye (1904-2004)
You are now free... God Bless you Mark.
