Ilion Mark Vivyan, 59, of Ilion, passed away on January 8, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke's with his loving family by his side. Mark was born in Ilion on March 29, 1951 the son of Gordon (Jim) and Margaret (Wright) Vivyan. He was educated in Ilion Schools and was a graduate of Oneonta State Teachers College. Mark was a social studies teacher in Ilion until his retirement in 2006. Mark was an avid sports fan who enjoyed both playing and coaching, especially baseball and basketball. Mark once played for the Milford Macs. Most recently Mark enjoyed golfing and working at Hidden Valley Golf Club in Whitesboro, where he had many friends. Mark was also a member of the Ilion Elks #1444 and was co-owner of Treasures in Herkimer. Mark is survived by his loving wife Sue, his daughters Michele, Jennifer, and Krysten; his parents Jim and Margaret Vivyan; his brothers and sisters, Kevin and Terri Vivyan, Robin Vivyan, Deborah and Joseph McCarthy, and Kelly Vivyan; his Aunt Pat and Uncle Bill White and their daughter Paula; brothers and sisters in law, Judy Hartmann, Robert and Cathy Hartmann, Dianne and Patrick McCuen; and his nieces and nephews, Wes, Emily, Joe, Kyle, Sara, Kevin, Emily, Jon, Katie, Jimmy, Matt, Lauren, and Megan. Mark was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Charles and Marietta Wright and his mother in law Barbara Hartmann. A memorial mass for Mark will be held on Wednesday January 12, 2011 at 2 pm at the Church of The Annunciation in Ilion. Friends may call on Tuesday January 11, 2011 from 4-7pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. In lieu of flowers friends are asked to consider memorial donations to the Mark Vivyan Memorial Scholarship, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mark's family extends thanks to Dr. Butala and his staff, along with the 6th floor staff at Faxton-St Luke's for their care and compassion during his illness.
