Ilion
Alfred E. “Sig” Seymour, 84 of Ilion passed away on Saturday March 15, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side.
Al was born on April 4, 1929 in Ilion the son of the late William and Margaret (Kenefick) Seymour; he was a graduate of Ilion Schools. On November 7, 1953 he married the former Patricia Lints at Annunciation Church in Ilion. The couple recently celebrated their 60th anniversary with family and close friends.
Al was a retired Sargent of the Ilion Police Department. Following his retirement he worked as an Investigator for the Herkimer County District Attorney and Sheriff’s Department. Al ended his career in 2002 with a combined total of over 44 years in law enforcement. He was a member of the Annunciation Church and the Knights of Columbus 4th degree.
Throughout his life Al was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed backyard barbeques by the pool with his children, grandchildren, grand dogs and cats; he also enjoyed following the New York Giants and Yankees, as well as being an avid Notre Dame football fan. In his leisure time Al enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing pitch and especially Scrabble with Pat and yes they did keep score.
Al is survived by his loving wife Pat, a son Timothy and his companion Heather Polley of Ilion, a daughter Lisa and her husband Jason Adamek of Herkimer; four grandchildren, Erica, Daniel, Libby, and Mackenzie and two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is pre deceased by his son Dr. Jeffery Seymour and by his brothers and sisters Chris, Harry, Burton, Joe, Willie, Jack, Bud, Rita and Margaret.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday March 20, 2014 at 10:30am at the Church of The Annunciation in Ilion; Rev. Paul Catena Pastor will officiate. Interment will be in the spring at Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion. Friends may call on Wednesday March 19, 2014 from 4-7 pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. The Knights of Columbus will hold ritual services at 6 pm at the funeral home.
Friends are asked to consider memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.; envelopes are available at the funeral home.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
