Charlotte, NC - Mohawk, NY - Egan Hammond, 75, most recently of Charlotte, NC and formerly of Mohawk, NY passed away peacefully on July 12, 2023. She was born February 18, 1948 in Herkimer, NY to Jim and Ruth Kirby Hammond. She lived in Mohawk and went to Mohawk Central Schools. She graduated in 1966. She went to Mohawk Valley Community College and studied Computer Science. In 1975 she joined the U.S Army. She was in HHC PSYOP at Fort Bragg, NC. She was a Spec 4 and earned an Expert Badge M-16 for shooting and earned a Good Conduct Medal. She was a Reproduction Equipment Repair Specialist making photo layout and map making. When they went out for field training she drove one of the huge cargo trucks, which she loved to drive. She was in active duty until 1978. DUring the 1980s she was in the Army Reserves for four years. She moved to Charlotte NC in 1984. She worked for First Union Bank and then worked at Bank of America as a systems analyst until she retired. She loved building things, motorcycles, waterskiing, and animals. She put her heart into everything she did. She would give anyone the shirt off her back.Her favorite actress was Judi Dench and she and her sister took several trips to England to see Judi in some plays and actually got to meet Judi. During one trip they went to Ireland and England to visit our ancestral homes. We actually visited the people who lived in the 18th Century House, built during King George 111 reign, that our great, great grandparents lived in. She is greatly missed. She leaves behind her sister Jama and her dog Murphy, 14 cousins and their families, along with some very dear friends in Charlotte. A graveside service with Military Honors will take place on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 am in Mohawk Cemetery with Fr. Steve Scarcia, officiating.
