Joseph R. Mroz Sr., 69, of 315 N. Prospect St. passed away Friday, April 9, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care, New Hartford.
Joe was born May 16, 1940 in Rome, the son of the late Joseph and Eleanor Martin Mroz and was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. He was employed as a chef at the Empire Diner in Herkimer and also various other area restaurants. Joe also was employed as a truck driver with NEP Glass and drove bus for the HARC.
Joe is survived by two daughters and a son in law Michele and Philip Foster of Frankfort, Sherri Mroz of Mohawk, a son and daughter in law Joseph Jr. and Barb Mroz of Ilion, a step son Richard Burton of Ilion, his sister Patricia Mroz of Clinton, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren also several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joe had a great love for horse racing.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc. 100 Otsego St. (Rt. 51), Ilion, with Deacon James Bower officiating; interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Rome. The family will receive friends Monday, April 12 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
