Cathy was my first new friend when I moved to High St, Ilion, NY from Connecticut. We were the only 2 girls on our end of the street and the same age. Our families knew each other. We attended the Methodeist Church together.
God bless Lorri, and Mrs. Pratt, and all the families.

Cathy and I were friends when we lived near each other in Ilion... we were in 5th grade. My family moved away when I started high school. Those were the days when we would play outside until our parents call us! ha Cathy's brother, Tom and my brother were great friends too.
When Cathy and I would get into mischief we never told on each other! In Ilion there were at that time many "Mom and Pop" stores...so Cathy and I would canvas all of our neighbors and collected pop-bottles. We must of looked pretty funny taking our wayon of bottles down the side of the long stairs going down to Otsego St. Then we cashed in the bottles, 2 cents deposit on each! And of course we went to all the "Mom & Pop" stores all over town. With all of our money we stopped at the penny-candy store and then off we went to the Ilion movies which cost us 25 cents each. Every time I happen to drive by those long steps in Ilion, I have to laugh and remember what a great childhood we had! Oh, I forgot, the pop-bottles were all glass and we had collected so many...they keep falling off the wayon and your mom would race down the side of the stairs hoping the bottles didn't break! ha We had a lot of fun and collected bottles all during the summer.
God Bless...remember the good times. Nancy Hess Smith

I was shocked to hear of Cathy's passing...Cathy was a welcoming presence at the Willimantic Camp Meeting Association, where the Propheter family has a summer cottage...not only did she seem to take great joy in being at the camp meeting, but also participated and helped out on many various events before she became ill...I have great memories of her playing the piano so beautifully at our Vespers services...she was also so full of good ideas!!! When we needed to come up with something "new" to serve at our annual fund raising Victorian Bazaar, she introduced "walking Tacos" - a culinary delight that we continue to serve each year, as it has proven to be very popular. She certainly wanted to "serve the Lord with gladness", and this is how I will remember her. I also know that she had the "gift of hospitality"- she enjoyed having folks over to her little cottage for a visit, and she was a good cook- my late husband, Bill, would say "there isn't anyone who can make macaroni and cheese quite like Cathy! You really need to get that recipe, Carol!!!" I am ashamed that I did not see her in these last few months of her illness... I will remember her as a welcoming presence and for her giftedness that she shared so freely with the Willimantic Camp Meeting Association.
