Ilion Betty Jane Leitz 87, Formerly of Rt. 51- Ilion Gorge, passed away March 12, 2015, in the loving care of her daughter, Margot, in Murfreesboro, TN. She was born March 4, 1928 in Herkimer NY, the daughter of Leo and Rhoda Pomeroy. Betty received her education in the Mohawk School System and later in Life, graduated from MVCC. She was married to William A. Leitz on November 22, 1947. Betty was employed by several local businesses Remington Rand, Univac, CP, Hamilton Digital, Bell Labs NJ, and retired from GE as a draftsperson. She was an Artist of many crafts, loved to travel, and had glorious flower gardens. She will be remembered by many for her beautiful and colorful quilts. Betty was a member of The Mohawk Valley Quilt Club and The Piecemakers Quilt Guild. In 1990, Betty and her companion Hubert Kay, finished the restoration of their home "The Barn". A dream of hers for many years. She is survived by her two daughters, Billie Jean Leitz of Ilion, and Margot Damiano of TN. Her Grandchildren, Daniela Kam of TN, David Damiano of NY, Aaron Damiano of NY, and Adam Damiano of AK. Ten great grandchildren, and a niece Tammy Rando of Herkimer. She is predeceased by her brothers, Leroy Pomeroy Sr., and Donald Mosher, a nephew Leroy Pomeroy Jr, and her companion of 35 yrs. Hubert Kay. Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Friday May 15,2015 at 2:00pm. With Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. Interment will follow in the Freysbush Cemetery, Fort Plain.
