Ilion Date Line Donal (Sam) Moynihan 72, of 7 Bellevue Ave Ilion, passed away on Friday January 9, 2015 at home. He was born April 10, 1942 in Ilion, NY the son of the late Donal and Florence Lozo Moynihan, and received his education in the Ilion School System. Sam served in the US Army from July 13, 1961 to June 21, 1963, serving in Germany at the Berlin Wall. On July 1, 1963 he married the former June T. Mason; she passed away on June 10, 1985. Then on May 22, 1993 Sam was united in marriage to Isabelle R. Sparks. Sam was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the Village of Ilion for several years. Sam attended the Church of The Annunciation in Ilion and was a Life Member of the Ilion VFW Post 502, and a member of the Ilion American Legion Post 920. Sam is survived by his wife Isabelle, three sons and two daughters in law Donal and Tanya Moynihan of Ilion, Robert Moynihan of Newport, and Timothy and Karry Moynihan of Camden, NY, two daughters and sons in law Sandy and Craig Waldron of Bainbridge, NY, and Roxanne and Brian Deel of Vass, NC, a step daughter and her husband Emma and Richard Healey of Mohawk, NY, a step son and his wife James and Debra Van Buren of Bridgewater, N.Y., three brothers and a sister in law David and Kathy Moynihan of Mohawk, NY, William Moynihan of Mohawk, NY and Tony Frasier of Ilion, four sisters and a brother in law Joyce and Nelson Johnson of Mohawk, NY, Joanne Matthews of Auburn, NY, Rose Brown of Brockton, MA, and Diane Bailey of Mohawk, NY, a sister in law Della Moynihan of Broadalbin, NY, also 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren also several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dog, Baby Girl and his two cats, Ginger and Belle. Sam was predeceased by a sister Eileen Krowicki, and a brother Mike Moynihan. Friends are invited to attend calling hours and funeral service for Sam to be held on Wednesday January 14, 2015 at 7:00 PM with Deacon Michael Carbone officiating. Interment will be in the Mohawk Cemetery in the spring with Full Military Honors. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego Street, Ilion. The VFW Post 502 will conduct services on Wednesday January 14, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the funeral home, and the Ilion American Legion Post 920 will conduct services at 6:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
