Ilion John C. Sorenson, 87 of 80 E. North St in Ilion, passed away on Friday August 29, 2014 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. John was born on January 11, 1927 in E. Frankfort; he was the son of the late Martin J. and Adeline (Elthorp) Sorenson. He was a graduate of Ilion schools and worked as a production control supervisor at UNIVAC for 28 years and he also worked his family farm. John was a WWII veteran serving in the US Coast Guard. On September 25, 1948 John married the former Dorothy M. Dye in Edmeston, Dorothy passed away January 16, 2002. John is survived by two sons Jeffery and his wife Sylvia of Mohawk and Scott of Alabama; two daughters Elaine Parsons of Mohawk and Krista and her husband Dan Beacraft of Little Falls; one brother Jim and his wife Kathy of Ilion; a sister in law Audrey Sorenson of Ilion and a close friend Ken Morris of Cedarville. John also leaves his 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. He is pre deceased by a brother Robert and granddaughter Tiffany. A memorial service for John will be held on Thursday September 4, 2014 at 6pm; at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St in Ilion with Pastor Hans Drews officiating, friends may call from 4 pm until the time of the funeral.
