Ilion Carl R. Bleau, Forge Hill Estates, Ilion, NY, a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley, passed away peacefully at his home on August 17th. He was pleased to have achieved his 100th year and celebrated the event at gatherings with family and friends. Carl, son of Louis and Bessie Suiters Bleau, was born in Ilion on August 16th, 1914. He graduated from Ilion High School in 1932 and attended St. Lawrence University. Carl married Mary Anhel on March 2nd, 1940 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Herkimer. Mary passed away in 1993. Carl was employed by Remington Rand for several years before becoming Plant Manager at Martin Automatic Fishing Reel Company in Mohawk. He was involved in civic activities including former treasurer of the Ilion Cemetery Assn., Deacon of the Dutch Reformed Church of Mohawk and treasurer of the Mohawk Weller Library. He was also a former member of the Ilion Masonic Lodge, Conversation Club, the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department, Cedar Lake Club, and was past president of the Ilion Little Theater Club. Carl enjoyed retirement years with his son Peter on the St. Lawrence River and with his son Kenneth on Maui, HI. He loved golf and skiing and was a member of the 90+ Ski Club, finally hanging up his skis at the age of 93. He especially enjoyed playing golf with his grandson, Kevin, and all his golfing buddies at Doty's Golf Course in Ilion. He played his final round of golf on his 100th birthday and shot a 60 for nine holes. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary, four brothers and three sisters. Carl is survived by his sons, Peter and his wife Sue of Chippewa Bay, NY and Ken and his wife Chieko of Paia, Maui, HI and special friend and former daughter-in-law Caren Pepper and her husband Paul. He also leaves three grandchildren, Kevin Bleau and his wife Annie of Milton, MA, Darcelle Bleau of Ilion, NY and Andrew Bleau of Honolulu, HI as well as two great granddaughters, Helena and Carle Bleau. Carl leaves several nieces and nephews including Mary Seifritz, Paul Bleau, David Bleau and Cynthia Kaples. Carl was much loved by family and friends and was an inspiration to all who knew him. Gifts may be made in Carl's honor to the charity of one's choice. Interment will be held at the Ilion Cemetery at a later date.
