Ilion Date Line Gerald W. "Jerry" Shipman, 76 of 281 Bell Hill Road, Ilion passed away on Monday August 18, 2014 at Sitrin Health Care in New Hartford. Jerry was born April 1, 1938 in Burlington Flatts, NY the son of the late Lysle and Marion Fox Shipman and received his education in the West Winfield Schools. On July 13, 1957 Jerry was united in marriage to the former Dawn M. Schorer in Frankfort. Jerry was employed as a Drill Rig Operator with the New York State Dept. of Transportation. Jerry was very devoted to his grandchildren and loved spending time with them, he also loved hunting deer and especially known for hunting raccoons, with his coon hounds, he was most contented while spending his time outdoors. Jerry also had fun puttering around with cars, and enjoyed watching boxing, football and NASCAR. In his spare time he enjoyed cutting and selling firewood. Jerry is survived by his wife Dawn, two sons and a daughter in law Michael and Maria Victoria Shipman, Ilion and Jeffery Shipman, his daughter and her fiancée Cindy Bennett and Fran Madore, Ilion, a sister Janice Holberton, of Ontario, NY his grandchildren Michelle Johnson, Eric Shipman, Justin, Bryan and Kari Bennett, and Deonna Shipman and his canine companion "Miss Daisy" and several special cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend calling hours which will be held on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego Street Ilion, Jerry's funeral service will be held on Friday August 22, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Laurie Percival Pauley Officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak View Cemetery, Frankfort.
