Obituary of Lois A. Knight

Ilion Lois Anna Knight, 100, of Herkimer, formerly of Mohawk, passed away July 8, 2014, at Folts Home in Herkimer. Mrs. Knight was born on June 21, l9l4 in Herkimer, the daughter of Henry and Mae Warner Nabinger. She was raised in Herkimer and attended Herkimer Schools. On July 11, 1936 she married John H. Knight at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk. Although primarily a homemaker, she was employed for several years at Sperry-Rand Univac. She was a longtime member and past president of Crowley-Barnum American Legion Auxiliary in Mohawk. She was of the Methodist faith. At the time of her passing, Mrs. Knight was the sole surviving grandchild of Andreas and Elisabetha Koppenhofer Nabinger who emigrated from Frankenstein, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany in 1849 and were the primogenitors of the Nabinger family in New York State. Their descendants now stretch the entire length and breadth of the United States. Surviving are her son Steven Knight of Herkimer, her daughter-in-law, Joyce Knight of Utica; her grandchildren Melissa Jaquays and Michelle Jaquays of Mohawk; Eric Jaquays of Little Falls; Colin Jaquays and his wife Sue of Colonie, NY; James Jaquays of Lockport, NY; Rebecca Laufer and her husband John of Lake George, NY; Annette Renshaw and her husband Matthew of Ilion; and John Knight of Utica; great- grandchildren; Amber Dablewski and Colby, Bethany and Joshua Jaquays, all of Lockport; and Athena and Arianna Renshaw of Ilion; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Knight was predeceased by her husband, John; her daughter, Brenda Jaquays; her Son, Michael Knight; her grandson Gregory Jaquays; her great-grandson, Terrance Jaquays; her brothers, William, Jacob, David and John Nabinger; and her sisters, Elizabeth Harter, Ruth Taylor, Mary Wellington and Alice Root. In keeping with Lois' wishes there will be no public calling hours. The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family.
