Mary Jane Tinkler 70, formerly of Ilion, passed away suddenly after a short but valiant battle with cancer on Tuesday March 4, 2014 at her daughter Kathy’s residence in Largo FL.
Mary Jane was born on August 21, 1943, the daughter of the late Ira and Ruth White Silvernail. She was a graduate of Ilion High School. Mary Jane later attended Utica School of Commerce after which she was employed as a legal secretary for several years. Her last employment was with Wal-Mart where she worked many years in numerous positions, most recently as an Account Clerk.
Mary Jane was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, was an avid bowler, and a past member of the Ilion V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Mary Jane is survived by her daughters Kathleen Bracken- Jones and her husband Keith Jones of Largo Fl, Bonny and her husband Robert Babiarz of GA, and Sherry Bracken and her wife Sharon Putman of Largo FL, a son Randy Tinkler of New Hartford, a sister Lou Ann Casanova of Middleville, her grandchildren Paul Klotz, R. Rian Babiarz, Amanda and Joshua Bracken and Gage Tinkler, niece and nephews Jaime Crawford and Robert and Jonathan Casanova. She was predeceased by a grandson Jordan Bracken-Howley.
Funeral services for Mary Jane will be held at a time to be announced in the spring, with interment in the Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.
Arrangements are with the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego Street, Ilion.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
