New Hartford Ann L. Williams, Ph.D. Dr. Ann L. Williams passed away peacefully at her home in the Masonic Care Community on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Ann was born and raised in Ilion, NY daughter of Mary Elizabeth and Thomas James Williams. She lived for many years in Whitesboro and New Hartford, but spent the last three years in her favorite place, Acacia Village. Dr. Ann, as everyone knew her, had an amazing academic and professional career. She received a BS Degree in Education from Syracuse University, a MA Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Colgate University, summa cum laude. Several years later she made twenty crossings in three years between the United States and United Kingdom where she studied at the University of Wales/Cambridge and Oxford University. It was here that she received her PHD in Dyslexia and Psychology. Her employment career started as a physical education teacher for the Utica School District and later as a fourth grade teacher at New York Mills. She worked for fifteen years as a clinical psychologist for Marcy Psychiatric Center, Rome Developmental Center and for Herkimer County Health Clinic. Most recently she was in private practice and was also a certified hypnotherapist. She has been an instructor for MVCC where she taught Introduction to Psychology for MVLIR. She was also very proud to serve as a docent at Munson-Williams Proctor Institute for 8 years. In preparation for this position she trained two summers at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, MA. For the past few years she was still conducting Psychology Seminars to groups at Acacia Village as well as serving on the Board of Governors for the Children's Dyslexia Center of Central NY. Ann is survived by her eldest son Russ Finegan, Jr. and his wife Judy of Cedar Lake and Myrtle Beach; their children Erin Donovan and husband Brent of Glenwood Springs, CO; Kelsey DelMedico and husband Mike of Cedar Lake. Her second son Judd Finegan and his wife Sue of Cedar Lake and Bonita Springs, FL; their children Lisa Varga and husband Joe of Rochester, NY; Jeff Finegan of Bonita Springs, FL; Stacey Finegan and Matt Bevivino of Philadelphia, PA. She is also survived by great grandchildren Austin Varga, Clare and Max Donovan. Ann was predeceased by three sisters Edna Gorney, Ellen Brown, and Mary Connor; four brothers Clifford, Haden, Norm and Matt Williams. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
