Ilion Gordon “Jim” Vivyan On Friday April 11, 2014 Jim’s family lost a very special husband, father and grandfather. He will be forever missed. Jim was born on March 16, 1928 in Utica, the son of the late Gordon and Clara (Schilz) Vivyan. He grew up in Schuyler with his three brothers and two sisters. Jim was a graduate of Proctor High School and on April 15, 1950 he married his true love Margaret Wright; they had a wonderful life together with many adventures. They loved traveling and camping. Jim served in the US Army in Japan following WWII. Jim worked for many years for NYSDOT as a derrick Captain on the Erie Canal. In his younger days Jim loved playing fast-pitch softball for the Valley Merchants. As his children grew up he enjoyed coaching Little League and American Legion Baseball. He was always there for his children; this can also be said of his grandchildren. He attended countless games and musical events to support his grandchildren. They also spent many happy times at their grandparent’s house as well as on the many camping trips where everyone enjoyed hiking, fishing and campfires. Jim is survived by his loving wife Margaret. He also leaves his children Susan Vivyan, Debbie and Joe McCarthy, Kevin and Terri Vivyan, Robin Vivyan and Kelly Vivyan. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Michele and her fiancée Chris Hinkley, Jenn Vivyan, Krysten and Shane Dutch, Joseph and Kyle McCarthy, Wesley and Emily Vivyan, and Sara Vivyan; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Pat Wright, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is pre-deceased by his son Mark Vivyan, who was always in his heart. He is also pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Matt and Ada, Bill and Helen, and John, and his sisters and brother-in-law Mary Jane Denz and Teresa and Brad Bush. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 14, 2014 at2:00 PM from the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion; Fr. Paul Catena will officiate; internment will be in the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there are no calling hours. Friends are asked to consider memorial donations to HOSPICE, the American Cancer Society or Catholic Charities. Envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
