Mohawk Jim "Gydo" Gydesen, 81 of Mohawk passed away on Tuesday April 1, 2014 at home, with his loving family by his side. Jim was born March 8, 1933 in Little Falls, the son of the late James and Margaret (Mead) Gydesen. He was educated at St. Mary's School in Little Falls. Following School Jim served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Corporal. Jim was employed as a truck driver for Remington Arms Co. until his retirement. Jim was a member of the Church of The Annunciation in Ilion. He was known for his sense of humor and love of animals, especially Wishie and Minnie. He was a very active person always exercising and running in several Boilermakers and a marathon. Jim was very proud of his Danish and Irish heritage as well as his self-control. Jim is survived by his wife Pam (Urtz) and a daughter Janet and her husband Marco Cerasi and their children Lindsay, Jamie, Brittany and Dani. He also leaves his brother and sister in laws; Greg and Doris Urtz of Mohawk, Mike Urtz of Ilion, , Patti and Mike Hoffman of NC, Matt Urtz of CA, Scott and Jodi Urtz of West Winfield, Mark and Regina Urtz of NC and Mary and Bela Megyeri of Colonie, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son James and a sister in law Kathleen Urtz Hoffman. A funeral mass for Jim will be celebrated on Monday April 7, 2014 at 10 am at The Church of The Annunciation in Ilion, Rev. Paul Catena-Pastor will officiate, and interment will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery in the Town of Herkimer. Friends may call on Sunday April 6, from 4-7pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. Memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to the Herkimer County Humane Society; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Jim's family would like to thanks the staff at Sitrin Rehab and St. Elizabeth's SOECUAL Unit for all of the wonderful care and compassion shown during his illness.
