Ilion Lorena T. Smith, 91 formerly of Ilion, passed away on Thursday February 27, 2014 at the Presbyterian Home in New Hartford. Lorena was born on October 28, 1922 in Willowvale, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Smith) Brown. She was one of nine children and grew up on Paris Hill. On November 2, 1940 Lorena married Roger Smith, he passed away in 1960. She worked for years for Mulveys Medical Center and later for Lennox Brothers Pharmacy; where she won awards for window decorating. Lorena is survived by her son Brent and his wife Debbie of Cabot PA; a daughter Carole Simpson of Ilion; brother Ed and his wife Cathy of Sauquoit; sisters in law Arlene Brow of Sauquoit, Shirley Brown and Lillian Brown both of West Winfield; a brother in law Cecil Champ of Sauquoit; four grandchildren, including a special granddaughter Sandy and her husband David Lenczewski of Utica,. She also leaves ten great grandchildren. Funeral services for Lorena will be held on Thursday March 6, 2014 at 11 am at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. Deacon James Bower will officiate. In keeping with her wishes there are no calling hours. Interment will be in the spring at the Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, where she will be placed next to her husband Roger. Friend are asked to consider memorial donations in Lorena’s name to either the Annunciation Church Building Fund or the Ilion Ambulance Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
