Please share a memory of Hilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Herkimer Hilda A. Mosher, 88, of 105 Protection Ave, Herkimer passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. Hilda was born September 1, 1925 in Herkimer, the daughter of the late Lyman and Gladys Rice Mosher. She was educated in the Herkimer School System, from which she graduated. Hilda was employed as a secretary for most of her adult life. She was a legal secretary in the office of Albert Lawrence in Herkimer for many years. She was an independent woman and sought adventure and traveled a great deal. At various times she was employed in California, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and Washington DC. She eventually retired from the Department of Agriculture, Division of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Her retirement took her to both Florida and North Carolina. She moved back to Herkimer to be closer to her family about six years ago. Hilda was predeceased by her sisters; Joyce Moyer, Eunice Dodge and Eleanor Wollaber and a brother Charles (Skip) Mosher. She was also predeceased by three brothers in law; Charles (Chuck) Moyer, Wayne Dodge and Walter Dury and three nephews; Eric Moyer, Brian (Chip) Moyer and Lyman (Jack) Wollaber. She leaves two nieces; Darlene and her husband, Sal Marchese of Whitesboro and Deborah and her husband, Gene DeRusso of Herkimer. She leaves two nephews; Dennis Dodge and his wife Judy of New Hampshire and Brad Dury and his companion, Susie Clark of Ilion. There are also great-nieces and great- nephews that have had the privilege of having “Aunt Hootsie” in their lives as well. She also leaves a special and very dear brother in law, Ralph Wollaber. Her family is sure that she will be missed by her card playing friends in the Community Room at the Galinsky apartments. She always looked forward to socializing with others and we are grateful for the friends she made there and the companionship they provided. Her family would like to thank the Care Staff and Rehab Staff at Valley Health Services for the compassion given to their aunt during her short stay there. Although she never married, nor had children of her own, she was a loving, caring and devoted Aunt. She was genuinely interested in the lives of her nieces and nephews and all their activities. She was generous with her time and sense of humor and was always ready for a card game or round of “Uno” or “Yahtzee.” She was especially happy when she was winning! She will be dearly missed. May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be at your back, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. In keeping with Hilda’s wishes there are no public calling hours, the funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Arrangements are with Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego Street Ilion. To light a candle, please go to www.whiter-hendrix.com
