Ilion Wallace Reyda, 87, of Ilion passed away on Saturday November 23, 2013 a Faxton-St. Luke’s Health Care in New Hartford. Wally was born on December 22, 1925 in Trevorton, PA. He was the son of the late Theodore and Theodora (Hunchak) Reyda. He was educated in VanHornsville Schools and lived at the Jordanville Monastery while in school. He worked in steel receiving and then as an assembler at Remington Arms, until his retirement. On September 5, 1959 he married the former Phyllis Smith in Newport. Phyllis passed away on February 14, 1995. Wally attended the Mohawk Reformed Church, he was an avid baseball fan especially the Mets and Yankees, and he also enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and motorboats. He built a boat that he enjoyed for over 20 years. Wally leaves his brothers and sisters in Pennsylvania; John, Paul, Mary Varno, Stella Bronokoski, Ann Reyda, and Olga Leister; a sister in law Eunice Busher of Mohawk; a nephew Jerry and his wife Barbara of Cold Brook as well as several other nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Wally will be held on Tuesday November 26, 2013 at 1pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion. Pastor Brian Engel will officiate; interment will be in the Mt. View Memorial Gardens in Little Falls. In keeping with his wishes there are no calling hours.
