William H. “Bill” Thomes Jr., 76 of Devendorf St., passed away on Saturday July 27, 2013 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica.
Bill was born on November 8, 1936 in Mohawk, the son of the late William H. and Marie (Brown) Thomes. He was a graduate of Mohawk Schools and attended Buffalo State. He worked as a commercial artist, retiring from General Electric and Lockheed Martin. Bill was an accomplished watercolor artist.
Bill was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk. He was an active member of the community and a dedicated Boy Scout leader with Troop 26 for many years. Bill was a member of Alexander Hose Co. #1 and the Mohawk Exempt Firemen.
Bill is survived by two sons; William III and his wife Hope and Jon both of Ilion; his daughter Mimi and her husband Billy Ferritti of Ft. Worth, TX; five grandchildren Jordan, Jared, Anna, Robyn and Robert; his nieces and nephews Annemarie, DJ and Bob. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Dan.
A Mass of Christian Burial, for Bill, will be celebrated on Thursday August 1, 2013 at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk. Fr. Mark Cunningham will officiate, assisted by Sr. Mary Jo Tallman; interment will follow in the Mohawk Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday July 31, 2013 from 4-7pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc.

The Whiter Funeral Company was started in 1893 by H.A. Whiter and was originally located in Forestport, NY. Following a fire in Forestport, the family relocated in Ilion, and reopened the funeral home in the early 1900's.
