Ilion Harold A. Waite, 92, of Ilion, passed away Wednesday April 17, 2013 at Mohawk Valley Health Care, in Ilion. Harold was born July 27, 1920 in Ilion the son of the late Harold and Dora Wendell Wait and received his education in the Ilion Schools. After graduation Harold served in the South Pacific (Villa LaVella, Solomon Islands) with the US Marines during WW2. On October 20, 1951 he was united in marriage to the former Theresa Mackin at the Annunciation Church in Ilion, Theresa passed away April 1, 2013. Harold was employed as a mechanic with Quackenbush Auto in Herkimer, retiring in 1985; he also worked at Asno’s Garage in Frankfort, and was a former mail clerk, and a machine operator with Remington Arms in Ilion. Harold was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion, member and past Commander of the Ilion American Legion Post 920 in Ilion, a past member of the VFW Post 520, and was an avid golfer and bowler for many years. Harold is survived by his children Larry Waite of Albany, Tom and Liane Waite of Everett, WA, Patrick and Carol of Fulton, NY, Raymond Waite of Balston Lake, NY, Steven and Michelle Waite of Ilion, and Kenneth and Tanya Waite of Newbury, NY, two brothers and a sister in law Ernest and Diane Waite of Denver, Co, and Donald Waite of Floral City, Florida, also 12 grand children and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four sisters: Arelene Briest, Marion Dzmitrowicz, Caroline Simorowski, and Ernestine Pavlot. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday April 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Annunciation with Fr. Leo Potvin officiating, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will follow for both Harold and Theresa in the St. Agnes Cemetery, Town of Herkimer (North Ilion), Military Honors will be presented for Harold by the US Marines. Friends may call on Monday April 22, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc 100 Otsego Street Ilion.
