Lee F. Waterbury Mr. Lee F. Waterbury, 82 passed away on November 26, 2012 in New Hartford, NY. He was a longtime resident of Ilion, NY and most recently at Preswick Glen in New Hartford. Lee was born on April 24th, 1930 in Herkimer, son of Willard F. and Edith Baulig Waterbury. He graduated from West Canada Valley Central High School in the class of 1948. This past summer he attended his class’s 64 year reunion. While in school he was a member of the Basketball, Baseball and Track teams. After graduation he was a PG Senior at Herkimer High School and was a member of the football team. It was there he met the love of his life Patricia Sisson. Patricia and Lee married on May 24th, 1952. They shared 58 years together until her passing in 2010. Lee worked as a lineman for the NY Central Rail Road for two years. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged as an inactive reservist in 1959 reaching the rank of Staff Sargent. He was employed by NY Telephone in 1955 until his retirement in 1986. Lee liked to travel in his RV and go camping. He was a history buff who would often turn vacations into his quest for more knowledge especially about the Civil War. He loved cycling, SU Football and Basketball, Cape Cod, books, cigars and dogs. Lee was consummate story teller. Whether he was telling stories of his youth, travels in the US, his experience overseas while in the Air Force or day to day life, he could relate to people of all ages and backgrounds. He was quick to find common ground with a stranger and he always made family and friends welcome in his home. Despite his extensive travels his favorite place was the back porch of his home where he and Pat enjoyed many an evening chatting with friends, playing scrabble and enjoying a summer breeze. Lee is the father of two daughters Joy A. Korce and Jodi Flo, and has two grandchildren Leah and Molly Korce. He also leaves two sisters Joan Bennett of New Hartford, Joyce Reardon of Herkimer, a brother Ernest Waterbury of Herkimer, several nieces and nephews, close friends Marion and Dean Christman and his four legged companion Anya. Besides his parents and his wife he was predeceased by his brother Carl Waterbury. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice, Preswick Glen, Dr. Desai, Dr. Patel and caregivers Chris, Jackie, Judy and Tina. In keeping with Lee’s wishes, there are no calling hours and the burial will be private. Friends are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the Ilion Free Public Library. (Do not delete this line. It does not print.
