Ilion Alfred Edwin Smith, 79, of Ilion passed away on Friday April 13, 2012 at Mohawk Valley Health Care in Ilion. Al was born on January 19, 1933 in Ilion the son of the late Edwin A. and Gladys F. (Beauchemin) Smith. He was educated in Ilion and worked for many years as a crossing guard for Ilion Central Schools. Al is survived by his brother Joseph of Chadwicks; sisters Katherine Smith of Ilion and Eleanor and her husband Harold Riddell of Mohawk. He also leaves his nieces and nephews; Judy Schneider, Tracy Miller, Scott Riddell, Mary Strafel, and Steve and Robert Tines; and his great nephews Luke and John Miller. A memorial service for Al will be held on Friday April 20, 2012 at 10:30am in the Butternut room at Mohawk Valley Health Care. Deacon James Bower will officiate and interment will follow in the Woodgate Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
