Edward M. Vandawalker On March 10, 2012 God called his beloved son, Edward M. Vandawalker, home. Edward was born on October 13, 1929 to Lester Vandawalker and Helen Kable. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, George and Sylvester of Ilion; sisters, Evelyn Hepburn of Niagara Falls and Dorothy Rankin of Mohawk, N.Y. Edward served his community as a policeman on the Special Police Force for many years. He served as a trustee in the past for the First United Methodist Church. He was a previous member of the Elk's Club, Moose Club and the Ilion Snowdrifters. Ed earned the nickname "Steady Eddie" because he really didn't let a lot of things get his dander up. His first priority was always his family, whom he loved dearly. He was a non-judgmental person and was never critical of others. Through all his adversities he never lost his humor. He had a smile and a kind hello for everyone. Ed loved his camp at Canadarago Lake. He always welcomed friends and family to come out for a boat ride. Ed was the life of the party. His friends and relatives there will miss him. Edward leaves, to join him later, his wife, Verna; his daughters, Carol Lewandowski of New Hartford, Mary Murray of Ilion and sons, Lee of Ilion and Gary of Syracuse. Grandchildren, Christian and Joshua (predeceased) Lewandowski of New Hartford, Kaitlyn Murray and Erika (Kenneth) Root of Ilion, Tracey Vandawalker of Boston, Rae Ann Vandawalker of Chadwicks, Kurt and Gretchen Vandawalker of Syracuse and Ian (Kristen) Vandawalker of Chicago. Great-grandchildren, Makenna and Alexa Root of Ilon and Addison Vandawalker of Chicago. There will be a private service held for the immediate family by Reverend Robert Wollaber at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego Street, Ilion, New York.
