Ilion Date Line Leland E. Fort 92, formerly of 80 East North Street in Ilion, passed away Friday April 8, 2011 at Folts Home in Herkimer. Lee was born July 28, 1918 in Frankfort the son of the late Leland C. and Margaret (McEleny) Fort, and received his education in the Ilion Central School System. Mr. Fort was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. On June 6, 1946 he was married to the former Elizabeth Wasmer in Ilion, she passed away on January 28, 1995. He was employed as a toolmaker with UNIVAC, and later as a cutter/grinder with Remington Arms in Ilion retiring several years ago. Mr. Fort attended Annunciation Church in Ilion and St Francis De Sales Church in Herkimer. During high school Lee was an avid hockey player, and enjoyed skiing and tennis, the latter two well beyond high school. He played fast pitch softball with the Remington Rand Soft Ball team, and during the 40's and 50's had his own band. Lee is survived by a son, a daughter in law, four grandchildren and 7 great grand children and his best friend "Hermie" the cat. In keeping with Lee's wishes there are no public calling hours or funeral services. The family would like to thank the staff at the Folts Home for all the kindness and compassion shown to Lee during his stay.
