Mohawk Walter L. Smith Jr., 51, of Rock Hill Rd. in Mohawk passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday March 23, 2011 at home. Walt was born on January 17, 1960 in Dugway Utah, the son of Walter and Lillian (Bacon) Smith; he was educated in Ilion schools and was presently working as a cook at Denny's in Herkimer, prior to that he was an auto mechanic. Walt married the former Judy Kutschinski and was a member of the Ilion Presbyterian Church. Walt is survived by his parents Walter Sr. and Lillian of Mohawk; his wife Judy of Ilion; his sons Walter III of Mohawk and Matthew of Herkimer; a daughter Joleen Smith of Ilion; a brother James and his wife Erin and their daughter Bailee of Little Falls, his sister Pam Latt of Herkimer and his granddaughter Selina. Funeral services for Walt will be held on Saturday March 26, 2011 at 5 pm at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc. 100 Otsego St. in Ilion, Rev Victor McKusick will officiate, interment will be in the Armory Hill Cemetery.
