Obituary of Lois E. Gilbert

Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mohawk It is with profound sadness that the family of Lois Elewene Brown Gilbert announce her passing on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. She lived her life with passion, Christianity and love. She welcomed everyone she met with open-arms, a big smile and instantly treated them like family. Her Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary phone calls have been highly anticipated events for all family members. Her voice was that of an angel. She will be deeply missed and a small piece of each of our hearts is with her. She was a lifelong resident of Mohawk, born September 4,1936 to parents Raymond and Bertha Brown. Lois married the love of her life, Leonard Gilbert on June 3, 1951. They were married for sixty-nine years, and never left each other’s side. She is survived by her adoring husband, their children Deborah Baron (Robert), Richard Gilbert (Margaret), Darrell Gilbert (Jill), Daniel Gilbert (Corinne), Denise Clark (Mark). Their grandchildren: Rob, Matthew, Jaclyn, Julianna, Brittany, Joshua, Courtney, Ryan, Andrew, Alexis, Jillian, and Olivia. And their 15 great-grandchildren: Richard, Grace, Quinn, Rilynn, Anna, Jack, Tripp, Karson, Madeline, Levi, Elizabeth, Leopold, Aaron, Drew, and Casey. She is also survived by her sisters Gwenn Gilbert (Frank), Rena Mallernee (Ronald) and her brothers Ray (Cheri), Paul, Timothy, Ted and, Peter Brown. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her sisters: Mary Randt, Johanna Feane, and Amy Mogensen; and her beautiful first-born grandchild, Jennifer Lynne Gilbert. Lois had so much pure goodness, so much capacity to bring happiness to others and she made everyone feel special. She cared about people in the purest way; she loved them for who they are. Lois was proud to be a certified Lay Speaker for the Jordanville Federated Church. Her gift for writing and delivering prayers, sermons and eulogies meant she was frequently counted on by friends and families in both times of celebration and difficulty, and she always knew the perfect thing to say. In this capacity, she assisted with many religious functions for family members. Her strong faith was always “worn on her sleeve” and she knew how to offer words of comfort in any situation. She was also extremely proud of “Len-Lo Farms”, the dairy farm established by Leonard and Lois and now being run by Darrell and Jill Gilbert. Hosting the Farm Show (running for 30 years) always brought her a sense of pride and contentment and she felt it was a huge sense of achievement for all members of the farming community. Precious was any time Lois and Leonard shared with their beloved family, especially during the holidays. Favorite dishes were passed around the table with most family members in attendance each and every holiday. They taught them the strength of commitment and family ties. The family wants to give a special thank you to the terrific care-givers at the Cleveland Clinic, most especially Dr. Gosta Pettersson whose skill, kindness and humanity are beyond amazing. Friends and family will be received via drive thru on the Len Lo Farms Central New York Farm Progress show site, Robinson Road, Mohawk, NY, on August 14, 2020 from 3:00-6:00pm. Face coverings are required. There will be a private, family service at the Jordanville Federated Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lois’ memory to the Jordanville Federated Church, P.O. Box 83, Jordanville, NY 13361. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Whiter-Hendrix, 100 Otsego Street, Ilion, NY 13357. To send an online condolence please go to www.whiter-hendrix.com.
