Please share a memory of Suzanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ilion-Peabody MA Suzanne O. Morris, 89 of Peabody MA, formerly of Ilion, passed away peacefully in hospice on Sunday May 3, 2020 in Peabody. Sue was the daughter of, the late, Wilfred and Anne (O'Hara) O'Brien. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy in Rochester and on November 19, 1955 she married Alfred Morris. They enjoyed almost 65 years of marriage until leaving this life a little over two weeks apart. Sue was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to supporting her husband and her children. She cared for them, listened to their troubles, shared her wisdom and encouraged them to do their best. She was soft spoken but her voice stood out in the crowd, whether cheering for her beloved Red Sox or for her kids on a stage or field. She was a daughter who cared for her parents late in their lives and ensured that they knew they were appreciated. She was a loving sister who spoke of her sister and brother often and with great affection, always wishing she could see them more. She was a loyal and caring friend who could put anyone at ease and would always be present when needed. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and she was active in the Democratic Party. She was an avid crafts-person. Her hands were never idle - she was always working on a quilt, a sweater, socks or mittens. The item was always for someone, never herself. Sue worked as a Library Assistant at the Ilion Free Public Library until her retirement on her 80th birthday. Prior to that she worked for Green Thumb where she matched people with jobs in non-profit organizations in Central New York. She was happiest when she was with people. She loved helping a patron at the library, bringing Communion to the home- bound, organizing a campaign, and bringing family together for a delicious, home-cooked meal, a celebration or a vacation on Cape Cod or the Adirondacks. In her later years, she lived with dementia, but she never stopped bringing joy to her family, her caregivers or to the people in her activity groups. Throughout the progression of her condition she remained the epitome of grace, and still made sure that everyone around her knew that they were special. She would share a joke or make them smile and they would hug her and call her “My Suzie.” Sue is survived by her three children Kathleen Duggan of Peabody, MA; Sheila and her husband Michael Driscoll of Beverly, MA and Tim Morris and his wife Kelley of Chittenango, NY; a brother James O'Brien of FL and a sister Maureen Arnold of VT. Sue also leaves six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial mass for Sue and Al will be held on Saturday June 27, 2020 at 10:30 am at Annunciation Church in Ilion, Fr. Paul Catena will officiate. Interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Ilion Public Library Foundation 78 West St. Ilion, NY 13357 would be appreciated.
