Eileen H. Kenefick ILION - Eileen H. Kenefick, 91, of 41 Manhan Street, Northampton, MA, peaceful passed away at home surrounded by her beloved daughter, Mary Eileen, and her ever faithful companion, Sir Tucker of Manhan (Tucker); Saturday, December 10, 2011. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph F. Kenefick of 57 years in January 2000. Eileen was born November 5, 1920 in Ilion, NY, the daughter of Edna Fort Higby and Lester J. Higby. She, her parents and siblings made their home in Herkimer, NY. Eileen was a graduate of Herkimer High School Class of 1939 where she was honored in 1935 for proficiency in Rapid Legible Business Writing. She was a graduate of Utica School of Commerce in Utica, NY in 1941 with a Stenographic Diploma and a graduate of Augusta Vocational School in Augusta, GA in 1943 earning a Certificate in Book Keeping. Eileen worked for Remington Arms Co., Inc. (Dupont) from 1947-1960; returning in the 1970's until her retirement in May, 1982. She held other positions throughout the years for many public and private businesses. On February 14, 1942 she married the love of her life, Joseph F. Kenefick at St. Francis De Sales Church in Herkimer, NY. Eileen was a life long member of the Church of Annunciation, Ilion, NY and St. Mary's-St. Elizabeth Anne Seaton Parish in Northampton, MA. She was a former member of the Annunciation Church Women's Rosary Society, a member of the Mohawk American Legion Post No. 25, and a member of AARP. She was also an avid bowler, swimmer and greatly enjoyed miniature golf. Eileen is survived by her daughter, Mary Eileen Kenefick (Marian Aubuchon) of MA; a granddaughter Shasta Yemayaha Aubuchon-Kenefick of MA; her trusted, faithful companion, Tucker, of MA; her oldest sister, Jerolene Higby Button (predeceased); her youngest sister, Aira H. Cassidy of Herkimer. She leaves her nephew and godson, Edwin Button (Marge) of Shortsivlle; two nieces Aira Cassidy Humphrey (Ron) of Rome, Erin Cassidy White (Joe), and Brian Cassidy of Herkimer, a great-niece, Shannon Humphrey of Marcy. Eileen is also survived by her brother-in-law Alfred Seymour (Pat) of Ilion, a sister-in-law, Rita Korniat and niece, Cindy Mead both of Herkimer, and sister-in-law Ella Seymour (Rochester). She has many great and great-grand nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a very dear friend, Gloria Joyce (John) of Frankfort; by Maria Cruz-Morgan, Amy Gardiner and Calsie O'Brien all of Northampton. Funeral Services will be a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am, Friday, TODAY December 16, 2011 at the Church of Annunciation, Ilion. Interment will be in the Armory Hill Cemetery with a graveside burial following Mass. Friends are asked to consider memorials in Eileen's memory to The Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 168 Industrial Drive, Northampton, MA 01060.
